Stress Echo Information Sheet

Preparation:

please bring to your appointment : your referral and medicare card.

A list of your current medications no eating, drinking and /or smoking at least 1hour prior to the test.

Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for treadmill exercise(e. G trackpants, runners).
Cease the following medication 36 hours prior to the test.

A. Beta blockers: atenolol, metroprolol, carvediolol, nebivilol, bisoprolol, sotalol
b. Calcium channel blockers: diltiazem, verapamil, amlodipine, lercanidipine
c. Digoxin, imdur, monodur, gtn patches.

What happens during the procedure: you will need to remove your clothing from the waist up. Women will be given a gown to wear. You will be connected to a heart monitor and a treadmill exercise stress test will be performed with an ultrasound (echocardiography) of the heart before and after exercise.

How long does it take: approximately 30 minutes.

After the examination:

you can usually go back to your normal activities including resuming your regular medications if you omitted any for the test.

Your images and report: a report will be sent to your referring doctor. Insight cardiac services will store electronic copies of your ecg graphs and digital copies of your echo images on our secure database for comparison with any future studies. It is very important you return to your doctor to discuss your examination results
